Cline has spent a considerable amount of his career as a jazz drummer/musician in Los Angeles.Cline prepared for the interview by taking note of information gathered during his pre-interview with Schiffman, as Schiffman himself has kept no archival materials relating to his various careers. Cline also consulted various materials relating to popular music in the sixties and seventies, particularly that of Southern California, notably Barney Hoskyns’s book Waiting for the Sun: Strange Days, Weird Scenes, and the Sound of Los Angeles; biographical materials on such artists as Jim Morrison and Janis Joplin; as well as David Geffen’s biography The Operator: David Geffen Builds, Buys, and Sells the New Hollywood by Tom King.
Processing of Interview:
The transcript is a verbatim transcription of the recording. Romi Keerbs, editorial assistant, edited the interview using a list of proper names and specialized terminology supplied by the interviewer. Schiffman was then given an opportunity to review the transcript and made a few corrections and additions. Those corrections were entered into the text without further editing or review on the part of the Center for Oral History Research staff.
