Processing of Interview:
Dustin Miller edited the interview. He checked the verbatim transcripts of the interviews against the original tape recordings and edited for spelling, punctuation, paragraphing and the verification of proper nouns. Words and phrases inserted for clarity by the editor have been bracketed. Mantle Hood's book, The Ethnomusicologist (New York: McGraw-Hill Book Company, 1971), and the card catalogs in the UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive were used as authoritative sources for spellings of all non-Western names. Robinson reviewed and approved of the edited transcripts. Richard Candida Smith, principal editor, reviewed the transcript and wrote the introductory biographical summaries. George Hodak, editorial assistant, prepared the index, table of contents, and interview history.
