In addition, the following literary sources were reviewed:Dates, Jannette L. and William Barlow. Split Image: African Americans in the Mass Media, 1990.MacDonald, Fred. Blacks and White TV, 1992. Ross, Karen. Black and White Media: Black Images in Popular Film and Television, 1996.Various articles written about African American women in the broadcasting industry from Los Angeles Magazine, Los Angeles Sentinel, Los Angeles Tribune, Times Supplement on Zambia and the Beverly Hills Courier were also reviewed.
Processing of Interview:
Margaret Lamont, editorial assistant, edited the interview. She checked the verbatim transcript of the interview against the original tape recordings, edited for punctuation, paragraphing, and spelling, and verified proper names. Words and phrases inserted by the editor have been bracketed.Wina reviewed the transcript. She verified proper names and made a number of corrections and additions.Victoria Simmons, editor, prepared the table of contents and compiled the index. Lamont assembled the interview history.

Series Statement:
The interviews in the series African Americans in Entertainment and Media are designed to document African Americans in television, radio, theater and film and aims to better understand how they overcame bias and discrimination and were trailblazers who opened doors for other African Americans in the industry. Also documented is how inextricably linked each interviewee was to the history and struggles of the larger African American community in Los Angeles.
