The interview was conducted by Maggie Valentine, Assistant Professor, School of Architecture, University of Texas at San Antonio; B.A., American History, California State University, Northridge; Ph.D., School of Architecture and Urban Planning, UCLA.Valentine prepared for the interview by Valentine reviewing materials on Broadacre City and the construction and analysis of the Marin County Civic Center. She consulted the collection of materials on local politics and the history of the building process in the Marin County Library's special collections, Schultz's personal collection, newspaper accounts, public minutes, and previous interviews with various civic center participants.

She checked the verbatim transcript of the interview against the original tape recordings, edited for punctuation, paragraphing, and spelling, and verified proper names.
