He checked the verbatim transcript of the interview against the original tape recordings, edited for punctuation, paragraphing, and spelling, and verified proper names. Words and phrases inserted by the editor have been bracketed.In June 1986, the edited transcript was sent to King for review. He verified proper names but made no changes in the text and returned the manuscript in February 1987. King's wife, Anita Givens King, and Attorney Irving Andrews both assisted in the verification of unanswered queries.Teresa Barnett, editor, and Richard Martinez, editorial assistant, prepared the table of contents and biographical summary.
