Interviewer Background and Preparation:
The interview for tapes I to XIII was conducted by Robin Palanker, Interviewer/Editor, UCLA Oral History Program; B.F.A., Art, California Institute of the Arts; artist. Tidwell prepared for the final session by researching the period, going over the transcript of tapes 1-8, and meeting with Everts in a preliminary session. Tape IX was conducted by Sylvia Tidwell, Editor, UCLA Oral History Program; B.A., English, UCLA; M.F.A., Painting, Claremont Graduate School; artist.
Processing of Interview:
Editing of tapes 1-8 was done by Robin Palanker. Editing of tape 9 was done by Sylvia Tidwell. The verbatim transcript was checked against the original tape recordings and edited for punctuation, paragraphing, spelling, and verification of proper nouns. Words and phrases inserted by the editors have been bracketed. The final manuscript remains in the same order as the taped material. In August 1977 the edited transcript of tapes 1-8, along with a list of queries and names requiring identification, was given to Everts. The approved transcript was returned by Everts in September 1978. Everts made few changes or deletions. In 1982, however, further verification of names occurring on tapes 1-8 was found necessary, and this was done by Sylvia Tidwell. The transcript of tape 9 was reviewed and approved by Everts shortly after the date of that session. Mitch Tuchman, principal editor, reviewed the transcript of tapes 1-8. The transcript of tape 9 was reviewed by Richard Candida Smith, principal editor. The index was compiled by Cheri Derby, assistant editor, and the front matter was prepared by program staff.
